Built for a family of five during the COVID-19 pandemic, ShoCubiBan is a 120 sq ft free standing office, workout and guest room and a refuge for a parent to be able to get work done and have some solitude amidst all the time at home together.
Designed as a cube to maximize the square footage and oriented to capture an epic ocean view, ShoCubiBan is clad with charred cypress siding (Sho Sugi Ban) and minimalist details. Particular attention was put towards the window placement to prioritize privacy and views. The flooring is solid oak endgrain.
